Pepe is prepared to wait “until the very last” for Real Madrid to offer him an extension to his expiring contract.

The Portugal international is set to become a free agent in the summer, with a 10-year spell at Santiago Bernabeu coming to a close.

No fresh terms have been tabled to the 34-year-old as yet and the Champions League final on June 3 could be his last outing for the club.

'Zidane the best coach in the world'

Pepe, though, is refusing to give up an earning an extended stay and will continue to ignore links to the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and Inter until a definitive decision has been taken.

He told Marca: "The final is on the 3rd, and I have a contract until June 30.

"As I have always said, I will wait on Madrid until the very last.

"I am happy and I am at 100 per cent to be able to play.”

Pepe joined Madrid from Porto in 2007 and has gone on to make 334 appearances for the Blancos.

In that time he has helped the club to three La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey successes, two Champions League triumphs, the UEFA Super Cup and two Club World Cup crowns.

His glittering career also saw him form part of the Portugal squad which tasted European Championship glory in 2016.

Along with links to PSG and Inter, Pepe is also among those to have been mooted as a possible target for big-spending Chinese Super League clubs.

Hebei Fortune have been credited with holding an interest, with the CSL outfit currently working under the guidance of former Madrid boss Manuel Pellegrini.
