Tragedy struck during Thursday’s Europa League encounter between Manchester United and Anderlecht as over 30 football fans were electrocuted at Nyagasang, Calabar.

They had gathered at the popular viewing centre when a transformer nearby exploded twice – with a high tension wire dropping on the structure built with zinc.

Report gathered showed that 28 of the victims died on the spot while two died in the hospital with about 50 others injured.

Meanwhile, the Old Trafford giants have expressed their sympathy for the victims of Thursday's tragedy in the Cross River state capital.

Marcus Rashford was Red Devil's hero with a dramatic extra-time winner that sealed a 3-2 aggregate victory over the Belgians in the tension-soaked quarter-finals.

Jose Mourinho's men will face Celta Vigo in the semi-finals. Celta eliminated Genk 4-3 on aggregate after drawing 1-1 in the second leg in Belgium this week.

United will visit the Spanish side for the first-leg of their encounter on March 4, before welcoming them back to Old Trafford the following week.
