Stones plays like he’s towing a trailer – Cantona

Manchester United legend Eric Cantona has taken aim at John Stones, suggesting that Manchester City were ripped off for the England centre-back.

Pep Guardiola’s men spent nearly £50 million to sign the 22-year-old defender from Everton last summer, but he has struggled at times to live up to that price tag.

Indeed, Cantona pinpointed him as a particular weak link in the rearguard as the Premier League side exited the Champions League due to a 3-1 away defeat to Monaco, a result that saw them lose on away goals after a thrilling 6-6 draw on aggregate.

“We know now why John Stones was so expensive – because he comes with a fully equipped trailer that he pulls behind him when he plays!” Cantona joked to Eurosport.

“Manchester City’s defence are not the only ones to blame for their own infamous Brexit.

“And the attack! Not a single shot in the entire first 45 minutes.

“The question now is not who is going to leave this summer, but who is going to stay.”
