I'll go out on top: Zlatan Ibrahimovic

Zlatan Ibrahimovic isn't your normal football star and he's determined the end to his career will come on his own terms.

The Swede, who headed Manchester United to their League Cup title on Sunday adamant he wants to be remembered as a footballer who's talent nevere faded.

"I will stop on top. If I don't perform, if I don't bring results, I will not play," Ibrahimovic said.

"I will not be like other players, playing because they (had) a great career and name and they are still playing because they are who they are."

Ibrahimovic has been offered a one-year extension at United but is coy on whether he will sign it at this stage.

United manager Jose Mourinho certainly wants the striker to stay for another year but it seems only the Swede knows his plans and that his children, who famously played a part in him moving to England will not have a say this time.

"(My children) are satisfied with what I am doing," Ibrahimovic said, "but this time I am the boss, not them."

The Swede is enjoying toying with reporters about his future, especially after defying so many predictions that he wouldn't be able to cut it in England in the twilight of his career.

"Let's see what happens," he said. "We have another two months of the season to go, because according to many I could not do what I've been doing."

Scoring goal after goal, his exploits relegated a forward almost half his age - 19-year-old Marcus Rashford - and captain Wayne Rooney to the bench at Wembley.

He's also well ahead in terms of goals scored at United, 17 ahead of nearest rival Juan Mata and acutely aware the club needs him.

Asked if leaving United to play for another team would be a downhill move, Ibrahimovic responded: "Me or the club?"
