Power-tripping referee sends off ballboy for errant throw

An over-enthusiastic ballboy was ingloriously sent to the stands for an errant throw during a football match between the Kaizer Chiefs and Cape Town in South Africa.

The youngster from the Johannesburg-based Chiefs was harshly given his marching orders after throwing a ball onto the field to try and speed up the match.

The only problem was the young lad jumped the gun by throwing the spare ball onto the pitch before the match ball had actually gone out of play.

In his moment of eagerness, the ballboy had disadvantaged Cape Town because instead of keeping the ball in and whipping in a dangerous cross, they were forced to stop play after referee Victor Gomes blew his whistle.

Clearly unimpressed with the error, Gomes immediately gestured for the young boy to take his place in the stands.

“The ball boy is getting a red card,” the commentator exclaimed.

“Victor Gomes is writing football history here.”

Both commentators agreed it was an accidental indiscretion, but with the scores locked at 1-1 deep into second half stoppage time and Cape Town looking dangerous, maybe it was all part of the youngster’s sinister ploy.
