'One of the most bizarre own goals you will ever see'

Athletic Bilbao defender Mike Balenziaga left everyone scratching their heads with an inexplicable own goal against Sassuolo.

In the opening minutes of their Europa League clash on Thursday morning, Balenziaga was attempting to clear a loose ball in the box when he instead blasted it straight into the back of his own net.

The bizarre piece of play looked like a striker's clinical finish, but unfortunately for Balenziaga it was simply a horror miscue.

"That is one of the most bizarre own goals you will ever see in your life," the commentator said.

"I can't quite believe what I've just seen."

Luckily Bilbao recovered to edge out Sassuolo 3-2 to go level with Genk at the top of Group F.
