The goal that’s so ugly it’s impressive

We’ve seen some ugly goals in world football recently, but Papiss Cisse’s effort in the Chinese Super League may well have ‘surpassed’ the lot.

In terms of pure fluke factor, it has no rival.

If the Shandong Luneng striker actually meant to execute the shot the way he did, then maybe it would be a different story.

But the goal was the result of one of the most bizarre miss-kicks you’re ever likely to see up in the back of the net.

Playing against Shanghai SIPG, Cisse ran onto a pass in the goalbox and tried to blast a shot as hard as he could, only to end up making a complete air-swing.

However, the ball somehow popped up onto his trailing leg and looped up over the hapless goalkeeper and into the goal.

As the old adage goes, ‘it wasn’t pretty but they all count.’

Mind you Cisse’s comical strike in fact counted for very little, as Shandong was toppled 4-1 by the Shanghai outfit.

Was the former Newcastle United striker’s effort worse than this one below?
