Striker 'assaults' teammate after match-winning goal

With teammates like Newcastle United's Aleksandar Mitrovic, who needs enemies?

The Newcastle striker took goal celebrations to a whole new level of violence in the English Championship, and Magpies teammate Dwight Gayle was the unfortunate victim.

Gayle scored a hat-trick in the 4-3 win against Norwich, including two goals in the last two minutes of stoppage time, to settle a thrilling contest.

But the Newcastle forward almost had his neck snapped clean off by an over-excited Mitrovic, who celebrated the winning goal by grabbing his teammate and violently choke-slamming him to the floor.

“He shook my head, suffocated me and headbutted me,” joked Gayle after the game when asked about the Serb’s unorthodox showing of ‘affection.’

“It was like being whip-lashed. I think he tried to injure me. Nah, he's a great lad and as I said, we have great team spirit.”

“He was just as excited as we all were. Those were unbelievable scenes at the end.”
