Defender booked for calling out play-acting opponent

There aren’t many things more frustrating in football than play-acting, and for Polish player Kamil Glik, those frustrations boiled over in a World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan.

Glik took exception to Kazakh captain Baurzhan Islamhan for lying motionless on the grass after the slightest bit of contact with one the Polish players.

Clearly looking for a free kick that wasn’t coming, Islamhan then rolled onto his stomach and clutched at his throat as if he was having trouble breathing.

The referee had told the Kazakh captain to get up off the ground, but seeing as though he wasn’t moving, Glik decided to give him a gentle nudge with his boot to roll him over.

It certainly did the trick because Islamhan, who couldn’t move seconds before, suddenly sprang to his feet in anger at the audacity of the Polish player’s actions.

The referee had no choice but to give Glik a yellow card, despite his protests and the fact the Kazakh captain was obviously feigning injury to try and get an advantage.
