Fury as France steals Iceland clap celebration
It’s one thing to knock a team out of a major tournament but to then steal their iconic celebration is the ultimate insult.
But that’s exactly what Iceland’s conquerors France have done, by adopting the Viking clap after eliminating Germany in the Euro 2016 semi-finals.
With their own defeat to the French still fresh in the minds, the gesture hasn’t gone down well with those in Iceland.
Jesus christ France...you beat us, find your own way to celebrate your win! #embarrasing

Others were equally as scathing of the French, who copped a barrage of criticism on social media.
France doing an Aldi version of the Iceland clap ... 🙈 mortified for them

France copying Iceland with the 'Viking Clap' and making a fool of themselves. It's Iceland's chant and only suits them 😂😂

But some saw it as the ultimate compliment for Iceland, and the lasting legacy they have left on the tournament and football in general.

As is often the case though, there is simply no substitute for the original.
