Messi breaks Argentina record with majestic free kick

Lionel Messi has become Argentina's all-time leading goalscorer with an incredible free kick in the Copa America semi finals against USA.

The superstar midfielder stepped up to the ball well outside the area and curled a majestic strike into the top corner.

American keeper Brad Guzan didn't have very far to go to make the save but was beaten by the pure precision of the wonder strike.

The goal is Messi's 55th in international football, taking him past Gabriel Batistuta's previous record of 54.

Of Messi's 55 goals for Argentina, 27 have come in friendly games, 15 in World Cup qualifying encounters, eight in the Copa America and five in the World Cup.

The goal was Argentina's second of the night as they went on to advance to the final with a 4-0 victory.
