German coach explains sideline 'scratch and sniff'

Joachim Low has spoken out for the first time since he was caught on camera reaching down the front and back of his trousers at Euro 2016.

The Germany coach apologised for the bizarre scenes:

"I saw the pictures as well and obviously sometimes you do things subconsciously. It happened and I am sorry.

"It was adrenaline and concentration. I will try to behave differently in the future."

Low was watching the game from the bench when he put his hand into the front of his trousers and then smelled it. He also did the same at the back, with his actions going viral on social media.

Germany forward Lukas Podolski shrugged it off saying, "It's not an issue. About 80 per cent of you here have at some point scratched your balls. Therefore, everything is good."
