On the Ball: A-League Round 5

Is Bruno Fornaroli the man to lead Melbourne City to the title, will Bruce Kamau be the next big thing at Adelaide and what does the Big Blue have in store?

Fornaroli’s class on display

A lot has been spoken about Brandon Borello being the form striker in the A-League, but people cannot forget Bruno Fornaroli’s near perfect beginning to his stint in Australia.

The Uruguayan joined Melbourne City this season on a two-year deal and has scored five goals in five appearances.

But it is the fashion in which he is finishing his opportunities that has all football fans on the edge of their seats.

That includes turning on the ball to beat two defenders before dinking the ball over goalkeeper Josh Hall in one of his two goals against Adelaide United.

And with an already a lethal combination with Aaron Mooy, Fornaroli could be the man to lead City to the A-League title.

Bruce Kamau is quickly becoming the shining light in a very disappointing Adelaide United side.

The enigmatic winger was a danger every time he was on the ball against Melbourne City during their Round five clash, troubling their defence on several occasions.

The 20-year-old is a perfect replacement for Awer Mabil who joined Danish club FC Midtjylland in the off-season, with his pace and quick feet set to test any defenders across the competition.

Hopefully the club can sort out their leaky defence and then they will truly appreciate the youngster in attack.

Big Blue set to be a cracker

Sydney FC taking on the Melbourne Victory is normally one of the biggest matches of the A-League calendar.

Add to it the fact the Sky Blues are top of the ladder and the Victory completed the treble after clinching the FFA Cup and the fixture reaches another level this weekend.

Last time they met the Victory was dominant in winning the 2014/15 Grand Final.

This time around may be different. Sydney FC’s defending was horrendous on grand final day, but this season the glamour club has conceded only two goals in the opening five matches.

That may be seriously tested this weekend however when in-form striker Besart Berisha visits.

Either way you will be missing out if you don’t get out to the game or a TV to watch this one.

Shock of the week

How about the Western Sydney Wanderers pegging back the impressive Newcastle Jets at Hunter Stadium?

Despite a dubious referee’s call for Newcastle’s equalizer the Wanderers stood strong to grind out a 2-1 win.

It would be a big call to say the Wanderers are back to their best.

In saying that they are in a much better place than they were a few weeks ago and stringing together a few more wins could set them up for the rest of the season.
