Juventus to play A-League All Stars in 2014

Italy's most successful football team, Juventus, will play an exhibition match in Sydney against the A-League All Stars next year, with the encounter to be broadcast on Seven.

The Serie A champions boast a fan-base of over 250 million people around the world, with 1.4 million supporters in Australia alone.

“Juventus is one of the world’s most famous football clubs and a visit by the ‘Old Lady’ to Sydney has been long hoped for by Australian fans,” NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell said.

The club has been the home of many football heroes throughout it's long and prestigious history, including former Juventus captain and current Sydney FC star, Alessandro Del Piero.

“Following the huge success of the sold out All Stars match against Manchester United earlier this year we have worked hard with the FFA to secure Italy’s most-popular club for Sydney," O’Farrell said.

“The reigning Serie A champions will play a hotly-anticipated match against the A-League All Stars team at ANZ Stadium on Sunday 10 August, 2014.

“This is an historic visit by Juventus to Sydney and I encourage sports fans from across Australia to come and enjoy the best of world football in Sydney, Australia’s premier sports and major events city.”

A crowd of 83,0000 people are expected to welcome the Italian football giants when they take on the fan-selected A-League All Stars at ANZ Stadium.

An estimated $1.2 billion will be injected in the NSW economy.

A full strength squad will fly out to Sydney, said Juventus officials.

"Juventus has a responsibility to its millions of fans to present our heritage and our qualities in the best way possible,” Juventus FC President, Andrea Agnelli said.

Football Federation Australia CEO David Gallop was on hand to announce that the Seven Network has bid and secured the free to air broadcast rights for the match to "take this prestigious match into all Australian homes.”

“The All Stars concept is all about presenting the A-League on the world stage and the presence of Juventus FC in Sydney will guarantee huge domestic and international interest," Gallop said.
