Heskey to re-sign with Jets: reports

The Newcastle Jets have reportedly re-signed star striker Emile Heskey for another year.

In a huge boost to the club on the eve of their do-or-die clash with the Western Sydney Wanderers, Heskey is expected to sign a new contract package worth around $750,000 within the next few days.

The deal is reportedly worth less than half of what the former England international could have earned if he’d decided to play in Asia, the Middle East or Russia.

But in a massive coup for the A-League, Heskey has ignored other big money offers to stay with Newcastle where he has enjoyed his time.

“Money is not the be all and end all for me now,” Heskey said.

Newcastle CEO Robbie Middleby refused to confirm or deny the deal, stating “I can’t give you anything concrete about Emile at the moment.”

But a source inside the club says a deal has been done.

"He’s staying. It’s just a matter of fixing up a few of the minor details which will be a formality."
