Australia lands South Korea as Japan draw Iraq in Asian Cup

Hosts Australia have learnt their fate for the 2015 AFC Asian Cup following tonight's draw at the Sydney Opera House.

The Socceroos were placed in a horror group for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil Spain, Holland and Chile and things again have not quite gone to plan for the Aussies.

Australia were drawn in Group A for the 2015 Asian Cup, which takes place in January next year, alongside South Korea, Oman and Kuwait.

Ange Postecoglous men have been pitted against the highest ranked qualifiers from both Pot 2 and 3 (South Korea and Oman) and the second-highest ranked side from Pot 4 (Kuwait).

Reigning champions Japan have landed themselves a fairly cushy run to the knockout stages by drawing Jordan, Iraq and the 2014 AFC Challenge Cup winner (to be decided in May) in Group D.

Group B saw Uzbekistan placed with Saudi Arabia, China PR and DPR Korea while Group C will be an all-west Asia affair with Iran, UAE, Qatar and Bahrain grouped together.

The tournament kicks off on January 9 with Australia hosting Kuwait in Melbourne and concludes with the final in Sydney on January 31.
