Floyd Maymeather to fight Japanese kick-boxing star

Floyd Mayweather is set to continue his career in a Japanese MMA promotion.

The American boxing legend on Monday said he’s signed on with RIZIN Fighting Federation to fight kick-boxer Tenshin Nasukawa on New Year’s Eve in Saitama.

The undefeated 41-year-old, who has won world boxing titles in five different weight categories, has never fought professionally in mixed martial arts and it has yet to be decided what format and rules the fight would follow, he said.

Mayweather’s last bout was in 2017 when he beat Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor, running his boxing record to 50-0 and earning close to $US300 million.

Mayweather explained how the fight will also serve his business interests.

“I want to continue to build my relationship with Money Team Tokyo,” Mayweather said on Monday.

“I want to continue coming over here and bringing other fighters over here so my company can continue to grow and RIZIN can continue to grow.

“I would love to continue to work with RIZIN because RIZIN is an unbelievable company, and my company, we’ve been making some huge fights happen in the US, but we look forward to taking the Mayweather Promotions banner and the TMT banner worldwide.

“And if it takes working with a great guy like this, there’s no problem.”

Tenshin is 27-0 on his career.

“Nobody has defeated my opponent in the past, and I’d like to be the man who makes history,” Tenshin said.

“My punch can change history, and I’ll show that to you so please stay tuned.”
