Fantasy basketball: Waiver wire options for Week 5 of the NBA

It will be a mix of immediate contributors and longer-term options for this week’s Waiver Wire article as we head into Week 5 in the NBA.

Bones Hyland

Hyland is flashing some real talent in the Nuggets’ second unit.

Yes, Michael Porter Jr is out, so more usage is around to absorb, but he has already overtaken Austin Rivers and then Facu Campazzo and could very easily come for Monte Morris at some stage.

It’s probably more of a luxury stash, but he is worth taking a look at.

Chimezie Metu

Metu found himself in the Kings starting five last game and I think given Moe Harkless’ ineffectiveness, he could stick.

He is an active power forward who can rack up fantasy points, so when a player gets elevated into a starting job, and they are a good fantasy contributor, it is always worth taking a look at them.

Darius Bazley

Unlike Hyland or Metu, Bazley’s role is the same as it has been.

But, he is producing more consistently yet is available in more than 60% of leagues.

I don’t see anyone like Aleksej Pokuševski coming for his job this season, so Bazley shouldn’t be on the wire in standard Yahoo leagues.

Devin Vassell

Vassell is playing very well. He could, and should take a lot of Doug McDermott’s minutes, but could also come for some of Derrick White’s if his struggles continue.

Vassell can push into the top 100 this season, so I wouldn’t be leaving him for my opponents.

Patrick Beverley

Beverley is the Wolves’ new starting point guard, playing alongside D’Angelo Russell.

He isn’t the highest scorer, but he can rebound and get assists and should stick in the role for a while at least.

Eric Bledsoe

Bledsoe is in the middle of a hot streak for the Clippers.

But even if he cools off, Ty Lue said he won’t be changing the starting lineup in any hurry.

Isaiah Stewart

Kelly Olynyk is out for a while so even though Stewart has been frustrated with his minutes, make sure no one has dropped him in your league.

Anfernee Simons

We don’t know what is happening with Damian Lillard outside of he will miss Monday’s game.

But as I reported a few weeks ago, Lillard is dealing with a fairly significant abdominal issue that impacted enough that pre-season surgery was discussed.

Simons could have a bump in value if Lillard is forced to miss significant time.

Nassir Little

See above with Simons. The Blazers could instead try CJ McCollum as the point guard, and slide Little in as the three, and play a little bigger.

Littel outperformed Larry Nance and Robert Covington last game, but this is more of a long-shot move.
