Fan perishes during Indonesia-Fiji match after he's hit by firework

The friendly match between Indonesia and Fiji which ended in a goalless draw at the Patriot Candrabaga Stadium, Bekasi on Saturday was marred by the loss of a fan's life. The fan reportedly died after he was hit by a firework.

The victim, Catur Yuliantono, 32 years old from Duren Sawit, East Jakarta, was hit by the firework on his head. It was reportedly launched from the south stands towards the east.

Catur expired on his way to the hospital, as the injury to his head was reported to be severe. A suspect has been detained by the local police.

"A suspect has been detained for the time being, and is being identified," said security officer Nugroho Setiawan.

Meanwhile, the Indonesian FA (PSSI) secretary-general Ratu Tisha has condemned the use of fireworks by fans. She also remarked that the association will bear responsibility towards the victim's family.

"PSSI will bear responsibility, and will be with the family until the funeral. We must take stern action against those who wish to tarnish the reputation of Indonesian football," said Ratu.
