Former Melbourne co-captain Jack Trengove will make his Port Adelaide debut in Saturday's AFL clash with Carlton at the MCG.

Trengove has made just seven AFL appearances since the start of 2014 after being plagued by a chronic foot injury.

The 26-year was was thrown a lifeline by Port Adelaide at the end of last season after being delisted by Melbourne.

Trengove has impressed Power coach Ken Hinkley with a series of impressive displays in the SANFL, and has now been rewarded for his efforts.

But the news isn't so good for defender Darcy Byrne-Jones, who has been axed for this week's match after arriving late to a training session.

Tom Jonas has been ruled out with a hamstring injury, with Jack Hombsch earning a recall.
