You might already know that Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes are one of the most private celebrity couples out there. They rarely make public appearances together, and don't even post much about each other on social media. Heck, this was one of the only pictures of them I could find on Getty Images, and it's from 2012!
Anyway, you might ALSO know that Ryan Gosling was just nominated for an Oscar for his role as Ken in Barbie (despite snubs for Greta Gerwig and Margot Robbie, but that's another story). And it seems that when the news is that big, Eva can't help but support Ryan.
Eva posted a screenshot on Instagram of a Rolling Stone piece from alllll the way back in 2022 when the first pics of Ryan as Ken were released. It's wild to think about it now, but the initial reaction to the pics were not super positive! The sentiment expressed in the Rolling Stone article — that Ryan was somehow too old to play the part — was somewhat common. Looking back now, Eva Mendes has a few things to say about that.
Remember that Steve Buscemi meme? “How do you do, fellow kids?” Ryan Gosling as Ken is giving exactly that.https://t.co/ORA0rRNBrQ

"So proud of my man," Mendes wrote in her Instagram post of the article screenshot. "So much hate when he took on this role. So many people trying to shame him for doing it. Despite all the #Notmyken ridicule and articles written about him, he created this completely original, hilarious, heartbreaking, now iconic character and took it all the way to Oscars."
"So beyond proud to be this Ken’s Barbie 💕," she added.
Barbie costar and fellow Oscar nominee, America Ferrera, commented on the post with her own praise of Gosling's work in the movie. "👏👏👏 He is brilliant as Ken! Pulled off a triple somersault performance! We’re so lucky it was him and I’m so grateful for the way he showed up with his super stardom, and continues to show up to support all the women in this process!! He is a class act and insanely deserving and talented," she wrote.
It's also worth noting that the only other recent Instagram post Eva has about Ryan is this one, showing his baffled reaction when the Barbie song, "I'm Just Ken," won at the Critic's Choice Awards (notably, over "What Was I Made For?" also from Barbie). "I LOVE HIM!!!!" she wrote.
I guess sometimes you just gotta forget about privacy to shout your love and support from the rooftops!
