Stuart Broad cops massive fine for 'unsportsmanlike' act

Stuart Broad has copped a massive fine for his fiery send-off of Indian debutant Rishabh Pant.

The England bowler didn’t hold back in his tirade, which landed him in some hot water after being reported by the umpires.

The 32-year-old’s outburst cost him 15% of his match fee as well as one demerit point, as decided by the International Cricket Council.

But it had cricket fans completely divided in their assessment of the incident, and whether it deserved the hefty punishment.

Broad admitted breaching the ICC’s code of conduct as reported by match referee Jeff Crowe.

The England pacer was disciplined by the ICC for the send-off during the ongoing third Test against India at Trent Bridge, the global governing body said Tuesday.

Broad dismissed debutant wicket-keeper Pant in India’s first innings on Sunday and was deemed by umpires Marais Erasmus and Chris Gaffaney to have “walked towards the batsman and spoke in an aggressive manner”.

The fast bowler, whose father Chris Broad is himself an ICC match referee, as well as a former England opening batsman, also had one demerit point added to his disciplinary record.
