The Tiny Dancer star becomes the 19th person to win an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony award.

He scores his EGOT after Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium beat Chris Rock Selective Outrage, The Oscars, 75th Annual Tony Awards and The Apple Music Super Bowl LVII Halftime Show Starring Rihanna in the category.

Elton wasn’t present at the Emmys, apparently due to a recent knee operation, but his partner David Furnish was, and he was thanked by Ben Winston, who co-founded Fulwell 73, which produced the special, for his “creative vision”.

“We knew this show would be historic because it was Elton’s last ever show in North America on tour, we knew it’d be historic because it was Disney’s first ever live stream, we didn’t know it was going to be historic because it was going to win a man, who has created the soundtrack to all of our lives, who has done so much great for society, who is all of our heroes, we didn’t know it was going to win him an EGOT,” said Winston.

“I am incredibly humbled to be joining the unbelievably talented group of EGOT winners tonight. The journey to this moment has been filled with passion, dedication, and the unwavering support of my fans all around the world. Tonight is a testament to the power of the arts and the joy that it brings to all our lives. Thank you to everyone who has supported me throughout my career, I am incredibly grateful,” said John in a statement.

It was John’s first Emmy nomination.

He won his first Grammy in 1987 for That’s What Friends Are For, won his first Oscar for Best Original Song for Can You Feel the Love Tonight and picked up a Tony for his Aida score.

Viola David was the last person to win an EGOT when she won a Grammy in February.

The Fulwell 73-produced Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium was filmed at his final North American show in LA as part of the Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

Last year, the Super Bowl half time show, which featured Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, won.
