Wrestling superstar turned Hollywood actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has responded to UFC fighter Nate Diaz’s foul-mouthed barbs after UFC 244.

Diaz was defeated by Jorge Masvidal after a controversial early stoppage in their fight two weeks ago, with the referee putting a stop to the show after two large cuts were opened on the American fighter’s face.

The early stoppage was a wildly unpopular decision, with both Diaz and Masvidal immediately saying they were open to a rematch, while fans were quick to rubbish the decision on social media.

Clearly irritated about the premature end to the fight, Diaz was in no mood for games during his post-fight press conference.

Annoyed about Johnson and Masvidal’s existing friendship, Diaz let loose.

“F*** The Rock too man, that motherf***** over here playing me,” Diaz said after the fight.

“See him over there smiling with Masvidal. Should have had Mike Tyson handing out a belt if anybody.

“I don’t give a f*** about no belt anyway. But he can get it too.”

After a few weeks to let the dust settle, ‘The Rock’ has finally hit back.

The WWE superstar laughed off suggestions of any actual beef between the pair, but acknowledged his long-running friendship with Masividal (they both grew up in Miami) might have had something to do with it.

“I wasn’t surprised at Nate's comments because that’s the Nate we all know and love,” Johnson said on Ariel Helwani’s MMA show.

“He gets it. He knows that me and Jorge are boys. We’re from Miami, we have a lot of deep connections down there, a lot of the fighters we know, a lot of the coaches and trainers down there, a lot of the gyms we’ve been to.”

As far as a rematch between Diaz and Masvidal goes, there has been no word yet about a date or location. But if the fighting words between Masivdal and Diaz are anything to go by, it could happen sooner rather than later.
