A greyhound has had its race cut short after slamming into a duck during a race at Gawler.
In a truly bizarre scene at the South Australian track, the race favourite Loceryl was turning around the home bend, and in great position to win the race, before it came across the quacky creature.
Without enough time for either animal to get out of the way, the greyhound crashed into the duck at full speed, before going tumbling across the track.
Loceryl's trainer Rebecca McAuley-Fry told The Advertiser she was surprised the race wasn't called a no-race.
“I am but wat can you do,’’ McAuley-Fry said.
“I was more worried about getting him back to the kennel house to make sure he was OK and wasn’t injured.
“It was a freak thing to happen but he’s happy and pulled up really well.’’
Thankfully, the trainer confirmed the greyhound was in good health despite the nasty fall.
There condition of the duck however is not known.
