De Gea mocked by fans after howler against Arsenal

Fans have flooded social media to poke fun at David de Gea after the Manchester United goalkeeper’s horrible blunder against Arsenal.

Often regarded as the best keeper in the world, the Red Devils stopper looked anything but in the first half of the Premier League draw against the Gunners.

The match at Old Trafford was still goalless when Lucas Torreira sent in a corner for Arsenal.

Gunners defender Shkodran Mustafi headed the ball straight at de Gea but the United keeper parried the ball up and over his head, directly into his own goal.

What should have been a regulation save turned into embarrassment for United as Ander Herrera tried in vain to clear the ball off the line.

Viewers were quick to stick the boot into the Spanish keeper over his inexplicable mistake, many drawing comparisons to Everton stopper Jordan Pickford’s clanger against Liverpool.

Other fans were quick to defend the man whose been arguably his team’s best player for many seasons.

Fortunately, de Gea’s blunder didn’t see his side lose as United and Arsenal played out an entertaining 2-2 draw.

Anthony Martial found the equaliser four minutes after his teammate’s mistake but the Gunners regained the lead in the 68th minute through Alexandre Lacazette.

Jesse Lingard levelled matters a minute later, with neither side able to find the winner in the dying stages.

Liverpool were forced to come from behind to beat Burnley 3-1 to maintain their title challenge.

Fulham and Leicester City drew 1-1 while Everton and Newcastle played to the same result at Goodison Park.

Tottenham Hotspur took advantage of Chelsea’s slip by beating Southampton 3-0 in London.

It was a drama-filled night at Molineux where goals from Raul Jimenez (59th) and Jota (63rd) surprised Chelsea after Ruben Loftus-Cheek gave the visiting Blues the lead in the 18th minute.
