Wednesday's pitcher rankings feature just one current "ace" in Max Scherzer, but it also features a couple former aces (Justin Verlander, Rich Hill) and a few possible futures aces (Jose Berrios, Sean Manaea, James Paxton, Sean Newcomb, and Jeff Hoffman). Those in daily fantasy baseball contest have plenty of options if they don't want to pay up for Scherzer.
In addition to the players listed above, guys like Drew Pomeranz, Carlos Carrasco, Jeff Samardzija, and even Tyson Ross are candidates for big, strikeout-filled performances. Of course, there are always matchup factors that we have to mention...
The Astros and Tigers rank second and fifth, respectively, in wRC+ vs. lefties, potentially hurting Manaea and Paxton. On the flipside, the Royals and Giants rank 25th and 27th in that stat, helping out Pomeranz and Newcomb.
