Rizzo, who has been sidelined with a back injury, was a candidate to be activated Monday, but the game was postponed due to weather.
The Cubs are currently batting just .238 as a team, but they have scored 72 runs, which is tied for 10th in MLB. Rizzo was struggling to make contact before hitting the shelf, but he has hit 32 home runs with 109 RBIs each of the last two years.
Chicago (7-7) has lost three of its last five games, dropping to third in the National League Central.
