Aussies go for Boxing Day Bird

Michael Clarke has been selected in the 12-man squad for the Boxing Day as Australian coach Mickey Arthur confirmed that Jackson Bird will make his debut in the second Test against Sri Lanka.

Speaking on Christmas Eve, Arthur said Clarke was selected in the team despite lingering concerns over a hamstring injury suffered last Monday in Hobart.

However, Usman Khawaja will remain with the squad on stand-by in case Clarke fails an early morning fitness test on Boxing Day.

Arthur also confirmed media reports that Mitchell Starc would be rested for this match, leading to last season's leading wicket taker in the Sheffield Shield, Jackson Bird, making his debut on the biggest day of the cricketing calendar.
