Hughes was rewarded for his achievements by winning the New South Wales Rising Star Award in 2009 and he went on to be named Domestic Player of the Year in 2013 at the Allan Border Medal awards night.

Maiden Test ton
Hughes hit his maiden Test century in the first innings of the second Test against South Africa in Durban in March 2009, before adding another ton in the second innings. In doing so at the age of 20 years and 96 days, he became both the youngest Australian since Doug Walters to score a Test century, and the youngest player in history to score a century in both innings of a Test.

Record partnership
Many remember Ashton Agar's world record knock of 98 against England in the 2013 Ashes series, but it was Hughes who stood fast at the other end to allow him to get there. Hughes and Agar combined to set the world record for a 10th wicket partnership.

ODI debut century
In 2013, Hughes became the first Australian to notch a century on debut in a one-day international, smashing 112 runs off 129 balls against Sri Lanka at the MCG.

Youngest Shield century
At the age of 19, Hughes became the youngest ever player to score a century in a Sheffield Shield final when he smashed 116 against Victoria in the 2008 decider.
