Alastair Cook

Captain Cook has taken on the England leadership with aplomb, adding to his reputation as an immovable object at the top of the order. He will be a key figure in next year's Ashes series.

PEEL – Regarding keepers, I believe that the keeper should be selected on keeping ability. A keeper’s batting ability is a bonus. I’m not sure why Wade has taken Haddin’s place. I agree about the mistakes that Wade has made. It was probably because of age. Haddin is 10 years older than Wade.

PEEL – Obviously rankings only represent someone’s form at a particular point in time (last year or so). However, everyone will have their own opinions about who the best players are, so the only ‘evidence’ you can point to are the rankings. All I’m saying is, who are Yahoo to say that, for example, that Morkel & Anderson are better than Philander. I like Anderson but Philander has been awesome this year and that’s why he is ranked 2 & Morkel & Anderson are ranked 7=.

Hi PEEL – Katich was let go because of a combination of age (same age as Ponting) and form (his last Series against England his average was 24 & previous series average against India was 27). Katich’s last 10 innings averaged 23. Ponting & Clarke also had bad form but Ponting had over 12,000 Test runs (Legends get an extra life) and Clarke is 6 years younger (only just reaching his peak).

Wade has not proved he is the man for the position of keeper he has missed numerous stumpings & catches is not technically correct as a keeper. He has not performed with the bat either. Haddin is by far the best keeper we have & is performing better with the bat than the so called batsmen in NSW.

Rick.... If the rankings are what are the best players in order, why is Haddin not in the Aust. team like he should be on form & on the rankings you so go by...... he should be in there instead of Cowan, Wade & Hughs. Or is it more the case of politics in cricket, just look at Katich who was "too old" what a joke, when they persevered with Ponting. Katich had the best average the year before when they kicked him out.

PEEL – Amla has consistently been in the top 5 batsmen over the past 3 years. Current rankings are 1 Chanderpaul, 2 Clarke, 3 Amla, 4 Cook & then a big drop down to 5 Sangakkara, 6 Kallis, 7 de Villiers, 8 Ross Taylor, 9 Pietersen, 10 Younis Khan, 11 Azhar Ali, 12 Graeme Smith, 13 Hussey. Other Aussies are 36 Watson, 37 Warner, 46 Haddin, 49 Cowan, 57 Hughes, 63 Wade & 87 Khawaja. Rankings don’t include current AUS v SRI match or the last ENG v IND match.

Shows how much Aust. relies on Clarke. No one else from Aust. in the team. What about Hussey he would have to be better than Amla even batting at No3.

Me again. You have put in Ajmal (currently ranked 4th) but left out Herath (ranked 2=). Likewise, you have put in Morkel & Anderson (both ranked 7=) but left out Philander (ranked 2=).

Who writes this stuff? Sangakkara is not the No. 1 batsman in the world. He is currently ranked No. 5. Not to mention Amla's apparent "breakthrough year". Really? He scored considerably more runs in 2010 at a noticeably higher average. Plus his current ranking is 3 whereas he was No. 2 in 2010. But apparently this is his "breakthrough year". Yahoo, you are a couple of years behind the news.
