Wright back to coach Derbyshire T20 side

Former New Zealand and India head coach John Wright is returning to English county cricket side Derbyshire as a specialist Twenty20 coach.

The 63-year-old former Kiwi Test opener, who played for Derbyshire in the 1970s and 80s, steered the East Midlands side to their first T20 quarter-final in more than a decade last summer.

"We saw great progress in the shortest format in 2017, securing a home quarter-final for the first time and playing a positive brand of cricket throughout the competition," Derbyshire's cricket advisor Kim Barnett said.

Wright will once again work alongside former England seamer Dominic Cork, a specialist T20 bowling coach.

"John, Dominic and all the players are determined to build on the successes from last summer and continue our progression in this format," Barnett said.

Wright played the last of his 82 Tests in 1993 and has gone on to coach India, New Zealand and the Mumbai Indians.
