Cricket legends take part in historic game on ice

Some of the biggest names in world cricket have come together to play a match on a frozen lake in the Swiss Alps.

As the Winter Olympics kicked off in South Korea, the Ice Cricket Challenge was going on in Europe.

Cricket showed it could hold its own at the Winter Games as some modern greats took part in a T20 match in St Moritz.

Amid temperatures below zero, the match took place on an artificial pitch on a snow-covered lake.

Former Aussie Test batsmen Mike Hussey and Andrew Symonds took part, with Virender Sehwag and Shahid Afridi captaining the sides.

Sehwag top-scored for his side with 62, while Symonds showed off his skills with a rapid 40.

But England's Owais Shah stole the show, hitting five sixes in his innings of 74 to help Afridi's team to a comfortable victory.

It's not the first time cricket has been played on ice, but it is the first time such high calibre of players have ventured into the new world of the sport.

St Moritz's lake is reportedly able to withstand more than 200 tons, with horse races also held annually.

Tillakaratne Dilshan, Mahela Jayawardene, Lasith Malinga, Graeme Smith, Matt Prior, Jacques Kallis, Daniel Vettori, Monty Panesar and Shoaib Akthar were some of the others to play.
