Aussie batter Mooney wants X-factor status

Beth Mooney is determined to become a consistent X-factor batter who demands Australian cricket selection in all three formats.

The fast-scoring record setter will be a key player for Brisbane Heat in the third WBBL, which gets under way this weekend

By her own admission the last couple of months have been a whirlwind for the 23-year-old left-handed opener and sometime wicketkeeper .

Mooney, who was named player of the series in last season's WBBL, didn't make the Australian one-day team for the first part of the Ashes series.

She scored 118 for Australia against the ACT in an day-night Ashes warm-up to get a berth in the one-off Test, scoring 27 on debut in the game's traditional form.

But it was in the T20 component that she produced headline-grabbing form, twice setting a record for the highest score by an Australian woman.

Her quickfire unbeaten 86 off 56 balls in the first game secured the victory that ensured Australia retained the Ashes.

After making 17 in the second game, she belted 117 not out off 70 balls in the third and final match, posting the first international T20 ton by an Australian woman and averaged 220 over the series.

"It's been a whirlwind sort of eight weeks for me," Mooney told AAP.

"Obviously the disappointment of not playing the one-dayers and then coming in the back end and playing the T20s was really exciting.

"I was lucky enough to hit the ball out of the screws a few times and hopefully I can carry that on into the Big Bash."

Mooney made her international ODI and T20 debuts in early 2016 and has played 17 and 16 games respectively.

"I've been in and out of the Australian side since I debuted," Mooney said.

"That's something I want to rectify and change and make sure I'm one of the first people on the team sheet every game, whatever the format.

"It's just about being a bit more consistent and taking the game on as much as I can and being an X-factor style player, one that they can't leave out.

"So in the next couple of years that's what I'll be aiming to do."
