Barmy Army troll Aussies over failed reviews

England's Barmy Army made the most noise of the Ashes to date with a synchronised trolling of Australia over Steve Smith's DRS mistakes late on day four of the second Test.

Australia burned their two reviews in the space of three balls as they attempted to take 10 wickets to defeat England in Adelaide.

With the tourists on the ropes at 3-108 under lights, Pat Cummins struck Joe Root on the pads but the umpire stood still.

Smith requested a review but Hawkeye showed the ball was heading over the top of the stumps completely.

The next over Josh Hazlewood thought he had Dawid Malan trapped leg before but again the ball was flying over the bails.

With no reviews left after neither replay returned an umpire's call verdict, Australia would go old school for the remainder of the match as they rely on the two field umpire.

Soon after the Hazlewood review, Malan was again caught on the pads attempting to defend a delivery from Nathan Lyon.

Umpire Aleem Dar turned the appeal down, seemingly thinking the ball was on its way over the stumps, and the Barmy Army erupted in a fit of laughter.

The fans displayed their arms in the 'T' review formation immediately.

It even seemed Joe Root was aware of not just the situation but the Barmy Army's reaction.

Malan would eventually lose his wicket, bowled by Pat Cummins, but England will have six wickets in hand when they resume with 178 more runs to get on Wednesday.
