Paine retains Wade's 'nice, Garry' tradition

When Matthew Wade was recalled to the Australian Test side to replace Peter Nevill this time last year, his chat behind the stumps was a key component of his efforts.

But while he was only expected to unsettle the opposition he also elevated Nathan Lyon to 'cult hero' status with a typically Victorian slant on things.

His 'nice, Garry' chant exploded to the point of the Boxing Day crowd at the MCG planning to set a 'world record' with the call.

Lyon famously ended those plans when he took a wicket with the mooted ball.

With Wade out of the side, however, it wasn't known what replacement Tim Paine would bring.

The first day of the first Ashes Test hosed down any concerns -- and Lyon went on to have one of the best wicketless days of his career.

Paine reintroduced 'Garry' with some variety, and though he couldn't glove a James Vince nick off Lyon's bowling, he brought his best.

Lyon didn't earn a dismissal with his bowling but he did produce this incredible piece of fielding to get Vince:

The off-spinner hit the headlines in the lead-up to the Test with some choice words about retired England batsman Matt Prior, labelling him 'scared' in the 2013-14 series.
