Aussies make a meal of easy run-out chance

Australia didn't enjoy the best of games in their Champions Trophy opener against New Zealand, and this brutal miss summed up their plight perfectly.

With Luke Ronchi stranded in the middle of the pitch, Mitchell Starc and Matthew Wade somehow found a way to muck up a simple run-out.

Ronchi set off for a run but was sent back too late, the Australian-born opener seemingly conceding his wicket as Starc picked up the ball.

But the Aussie paceman inexplicably decided the underarm the ball from mid on, making things extremely difficult for Wade.

However the wicketkeeper was delayed in breaking for the stumps, arriving way too late and stumbling as he gathered the ball.

He ended up missing the stumps with his gloves and knocking off the bails with his shoulder, giving Ronchi a reprieve that he cashed in on, eventually dismissed for 65.

Set a revised target of 235 off 33 overs after dismissing the Black Caps for 291, Australia were struggling at 3-53 when rain resulted in a wash out.
