South Africa suffer comically calamitous run-out

Proteas batsmen Hashim Amla and Theunis de Bruyn have collided mid-pitch in one of the most comical run-outs in Test cricket history.

South Africa were on the verge of humiliation in the third Test against New Zealand before rain intervened and resulted in a draw.

The loss of de Bruyn in the second innings was particularly farcical, as Amla looked for a quick single and bundled into his batting partner, handing Kane Williamson the simplest of run-outs.

The Black Caps were in a strong position to level the series with the visitors 5-80 in their second innings, after leading by 175 runs in the first innings.

But New Zealand's brave effort to stave off a home series defeat ended with rain abandoning play on the final day of the third and deciding Test in Hamilton.

With the rain showing no signs of abating and due to the atrocious day-five conditions at Seddon Park, umpires Bruce Oxenford and Rod Tucker called an early draw.

The disappointing series loss means the Black Caps also lose their world No.5 Test ranking.

We certainly have seen our fair share of strange run-outs recently:
