Batsman's incredible blow-up in grand final

A local batsman has had an almighty reaction to being caught behind in his grand final, smashing his stumps out of the ground.

Newport-Digman were up against it in their Victorian Turf Cricket Association's North-West B2 division decider against Point Cook at Saltwater Reserve.

Newport were dismissed for 74 in the first innings and trailed by 140 when they began their second dig.

The pressure of runs proved to be too much for the away side as Point Cook secured an innings victory on Saturday, and for one batsman in particular the frustration was on show in stunning fashion.

The ball raced past his bat and Point Cook appealed as he jumped back into his crease, but the umpire raised the finger and he had to go.

Understandably disappointed with the match situation and the feeling he did not nick the ball, the batsman swung hard at the stumps and sent all three flying.

Point Cook bowler Owen Doolan, who took 7-57 off 22.3 overs in the second innings but was pipped for man of the match by a teammate, turned to the umpire after the incident but the team huddle kept the home side on track.

"Our captain just wanted us to worry about getting the next four wickets and not worry about what just happened," Doolan told Yahoo7.

While the batsman is understood to have been cited for his actions, Doolan said his opponent was not keen to relive it at the end of the match.

"Nah, (we) just shook hands," the bowler said.

Point Cook might be grateful for that given what went down in Albury-Wodonga two weeks ago, when an Eskdale batsman hit a Yackandandah bowler with a shoulder charge.
