Kerry O'Keeffe's hilarious take on 'son' Steve O'Keefe's success

Aussie cricket great Kerry O'Keeffe says he's constantly correcting people who think Steve O'Keefe is his son, but is happily claiming him now.

Led by the left-arm off-spinner's record haul of 12 wickets, the Aussies recorded their first win in India since 2004 in the first match in Pune.

It was statistically the best performance by an Australian bowler in India, a record Alan Davidson had held since taking 12-124 in 1959 in Kanpur.

And for O'Keeffe, it's sparked a hilarious change.

"People come up to me and say you must be proud of your son," O’Keeffe told The Back Page on Fox Sports.

"I always say no I'm a double-F O’Keeffe.

"But in the last few days I've just let it ride.

"Now I say 'his mother and I are so proud...not that I've ever met her."

O'Keeffe's quip undoubtedly had the panel in stitches.

O'Keefe's performance was statistically the best by a visiting spin bowler in India and one wicket short of the best performance by a visiting bowler, Ian Botham's 13-106 in 1980 in Mumbai.

He had played four Tests prior to his career-defining match, taking 14 wickets at 32.78. His bowling average is now 20.34.
