'Who asked for it?': Bangladesh panned for bizarre review

Bangladesh have put their hands up for the worst review in cricket history after an lbw appeal turned out to hit the middle of Virat Kohli's bat.

Taijul Islam was bowling the 62nd over when Indian captain Kohli defended the left-armer with a straight bat.

Kohli's front foot was planted almost in line with his leg stump, with his pad way outside.

Umpire Marias Erasmus stood in shock as he sent it upstairs and Kohli could only shake his head.

"I guess that's why we were all surprised," one commentator said.

"Now the mystery we've got to unravel is who asked for it? It all happened so subtly, no one had a clue."

Bangladesh captain and wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim has some explaining to do.

Kohli was on 31 at the time and remained unbeaten on 111 at the close of play as India reached 3-356 at stumps on day one of the standalone Test.

Opener Murali Vijay scored 108 before being bowled by Taijul Islam.

Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara put on 178 runs for the second wicket before Pujara fell for 83.
