Indian batsman blasts triple century in T20 match

Indian young gun Mohit Ahlawat has produced what's believed to be the first triple century ever scored at any level of T20 cricket.

Ahlawat scored an unbeaten 300 from just 72 balls in the local Delhi competition, the Friends Premier League.

The 21-year-old, who has played three first-class matches for Delhi, smashed 39 sixes and 14 fours in his innings, helping his side to a ridiculous total of 2-416.

Ahlawat blasted 34 runs in the final over of the innings, including five consecutive sixes.

"The attack was good but after seeing off the new ball, I decided to just bat aggressively and was really timing the ball well," Ahlawat told ABP Live.

"I saw the scoreboard, and I was nearing my 200 with five overs to go, so I decided to go for the kill.

"I reached 250 with just two overs to go, I told my partner, let me try if I can make 300, and I got 30 off the last over."

He is hoping his incredible innings will garner some attention ahead of the Indian Premier League auction in a fortnight.

"Yes, I have put my name in IPL auction but I am not sure if this knock will help make people notice me," he said. "I am eager to prove my worth."

The highest individual score in a professional T20 is Chris Gayle's 175 in the IPL, while the biggest team total is 263.
