Is Ben Stokes the unluckiest batsman of the year?

With just a couple of weeks left in 2016 there's a fair chance Ben Stokes will top a list or two after his two dismissals this week.

The dead-rubber fourth Test between England and India has been a tough contest, but Stokes has found himself rubbed out of it.

His wicket in the second innings - in the video above - came as England trailed India by 51 runs and required some hard graft to get into a winning position.

Keaton Jennings and Moeen Ali had both been dismissed for earlier ducks, and Stokes' partnership with Jonny Bairstow was trucking along well.

Stokes then looked to play a reverse sweep off Ravi Ashwin, only for his bottom edge to knock the ball onto his foot.

What would have been a shot for a safe run or two instead cost Stokes his wicket as Murali Vijay easily caught the looping ball.

Early on day two Stokes lost his first-innings wicket - in the video below - after a controversial review by India.

At 5-297 Stokes tried to block an Ashwin delivery, but it looked and sounded as though he had edged the ball to first slip, where Virat Kohli secured the ball as he dived forward.

Kohli reviewed immediately after umpire Bruce Oxenford did not lift his finger, presumably because the noise was bat on ground.

Snicko showed a slight noise as the ball went past the bat, and the third umpire deduced that that was ball on bat rather than bat on ground.

Stokes was predictably furious, shaking his head in disbelief as he conceded and walked off the ground.
