Incredible moment Renshaw family learned of Test call-up

Matthew Renshaw will be Australia's second-youngest Test debutant in 30 years after he was picked for the third Test against South Africa - and his parents' reaction upon learning the news was incredible.

Ian and Alison Renshaw were watching their son take part in Queensland's Sheffield Shield clash with South Australia at the Gabba on Sunday when they received the news Matthew had been selected for the national team.

Clearly his biggest fans, Matthew's parents couldn't hold back the tears as they celebrated in the stands.

"A few tears", mother Alison said. "I wasn't going to cry but I did."

Yorkshire-born Renshaw, who moved to New Zealand aged seven before settling in Australia four years later, Peter Handscomb, Nic Maddinson and Chadd Sayers are the newcomers in a completely revamped 12-man squad for the day-night fixture in Adelaide.

Renshaw and Handscomb were the main beneficiaries of the selection wheel of fortune: on a weekend when they demanded runs, Renshaw scored a ton while Handscomb scored a double-century.

"He'll just carry on doing exactly what he's been doing all along and don't change anything", Renshaw Seniorr said.

Interim chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns defended the brutal sweep, saying an emergency revamp was needed.

"We don't expect an immediate turnaround but we have got a bit of faith in these guys now," Hohns told reporters in Adelaide.
