De Kock sledge lights spark for Australia series

South African wicket keeper Quenton de Kock has given the Aussies some extra motivation with a not so subtle dig ahead of their ODI series.

Speaking to local media this week, de Kock was asked about South African cricket's sharp decline, including series losses to India and England and failing to make the final of a tri-series in the Caribbean that also featured Australia.

But de Kock somehow ended up taking a shot at injured Aussie batsman Shaun Marsh.

"Four months in India takes a lot out of you and it was straight from there to West Indies," de Kock said.

"That's five months out of the country and constant cricket. It's tough. That's why I think some of the Aussies are blaming their fingers to go home early."

Marsh is missing the South African tour with a broken finger, while Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood are resting back home.

Telford Vice of The Times said de Kock's jab would no doubt fire up his opposition.

"Quinton de Kock probably wasn't trying to give Australia ammunition to pin to their dressing-room wall ahead of their one-day series against SA. "But that's just what he did."
