Steve Smith looks in ominous form heading into Australia's Test series with Sri Lanka, taking two brilliant catches in a tour match.

Steve O'Keefe led the way with the ball, the left-arm finger-spinner snaring 5-43 as he staked a strong claim for inclusion in Australia's XI for the opening Test in Kandy starting next Tuesday.

And he had the skipper to thank for two of those dismissals.

Asela Gunarathna was outwitted by Smith early in the second session when the skipper anticipated a sweep shot and ran around from first slip to take the catch.

Smith took a full-stretch screamer soon after to dismiss Dasyn Shanaka.
