Backlash over Adelaide Oval 'beer wenches' ad

If you're an attractive young woman who's willing to buy beers all day for blokes watching the cricket...unfortunately you're out of luck.

An Adelaide man has sparked controversy with a Gumtree ad calling for exactly that.

INJURY WORRIES: Boult in doubt for third Test

The ad, which has since been deleted, offered women the chance to "watch cricket with 20 handsome guys" for $20 at the day-night Test against New Zealand.

Something along these lines.

Needless to say the ad received some negative feedback.

"The Adelaide Oval absolutely does not condone this kind of activity and there are rules on the responsible consumption of alcohol that are very clear to everyone throughout the venue and on our website," a spokesperson told The Advertiser.

"We think the boys should do the right thing and get their own drinks."

Equal Opportunity commissioner Anne Gale said the ad could be in breach of the Equal Opportunity Act as it "specifies age and gender, which employers are not allowed to do".

And it's not the first ad of its kind.

In 2013 a group of 20 men offer two women the chance to earn $200 to work as beer wenches at the WACA.

Also on Gumtree, the ad said they were looking for two "easy going women aged 18-35".

"We will supply costume as per photo," the ad read:

Another Gumtree user is currently advertising for "Beer Wenches" for the first Australia v West Indies Test in December.

This one is not as demeaning however, asking only for someone with the "ability to carry beer and share in the laughter of [the] day (at our mate’s expense of course)."

"We have thrown up the idea of 'beer wenches' to assist with our continued hydration throughout the day," Daniel’s ad for a Bucks Party reads.

"Four hours of your time would include entry ticket and negotiated rate for day."
