South Australia fast bowler Kane Richardson has joined Australia's ODI squad after Mitchell Starc became the latest paceman to succumb to injury.
Left-armer Starc has succumbed to calf soreness and joins a long list of injured Australian bowlers that includes stars Pat Cummins, James Pattinson and Ryan Harris.
Starc complained of discomfort after Australia's convincing win in the Commonwealth Bank Series triumph against Sri Lanka in Melbourne.
Starc claimed 1-25 from six overs in the 109-run win, with his status for the rest of the series uncertain.
Mitchell Starc had some mild right calf soreness after the match at the MCG last night. Whilst we are not majorly concerned about it, we have withdrawn him from the game on Sunday as a precaution," Australia's physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
He will be reassessed over the next few days and is a possibility to play next weekend's Commonwealth Bank Series matches against Sri Lanka if his symptoms resolve.
Right-armer Richardson, 21, has burst onto the scene with several promising displays both with the Redbacks in the Ryobi Cup and Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League.
"Kane has been called in as cover in the squad due to his impressive form in the limited overs formats this season," national selector John Inverarity said on Saturday.
"This provides another great opportunity for a young player as we look to build towards (the) cricket World Cup in 2015."
