Australian quick Peter Siddle has come under scrutiny for alleged ball tampering during Sri Lanka's first innings of the first Test in Hobart.

Television footage appears to show the Victorian paceman scratching at the seam en route to claiming figures of 5-54, and some sections of the Sri Lankan media aired their concerns overnight.

An ICC press release said the match referee knows of the footage, but revealed Sri Lankan team management had not laid an official complaint.

"ICC match referee Chris Broad is aware of the media reports coming out of Sri Lanka on the ball issue," the ICC statement said.

"The Sri Lanka team has made no official complaint about the ball."

Siddle was clearly Australia's most dangerous bowler during the Sri Lankan first innings, and his efforts were instrumental in handing Australia a 114-run first-innings lead.
