North Queensland have ended another NRL weekend waiting on the result of scans, with fears John Asiata has re-injured his knee.
The Cowboys prop left the field late in their loss to Canberra, before returning with it strapped as they were down to 12 men.
However, the ball-playing forward had scans on Sunday afternoon after being assessed by medical staff, with results not expected until Monday.
The injury came on Asiata's return from a blow to the same knee that forced him out for seven weeks.
He had set up a try for Jason Taumalolo in the Cowboys 14-12 loss to the Raiders.
"John Asiata showed what we have missed this year by not having him there," interim coach Josh Hannay said.
"He's got that touch of class a ball-playing forward, and he brought some people into the game just by his ability to ball play."
It's also another case of one step forward, two steps back for the injury-riddled Cowboys.
They remain some chance of welcoming Michael Morgan back next week from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him since the competition restart.
Youngster Daejarn Asi could also return against Gold Coast in round 13, while Josh McGuire is set to return from a suspension for a shoulder charge.
